Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why buy a custom mouthguard vs. store bought?
A: Store-bought mouthguards are made of unknown material of unknown thickness made to fit an unknown person. They do not passively stay in, and painful rubbing of the gums is common. The athlete needs to bite down to keep these mouthguards in, which constricts breathing (oxygen uptake) and speech. Improperly fitting mouthguards fall out or athletes take them out frequently.
Headstrong's custom mouthguard are made to fit only you, from a model of your mouth. It passively fits over the teeth and gums, staying in place perfectly, allowing you to speak clearly, breathe, spit, swallow water, etc. Our mouthguard material is triple-laminated, cross woven EVA of a 4mm thickness, incorporating a hard plastic palatal brace behind the four front teeth. The comfort and freedom of a custom mouthguard is unparalleled.
Q: How long does the process take?
A: After the mold is taken of your mouth, the mouthguard will be delivered within 2-3 weeks.
Q: How long does the mouthguard last?
A: That depends on you. Should you care for it as advised, and your mouth does not change, it can last for up to a year. Don't chew on it, eat with it, turn it inside out, or let it get hot. Keeping it in the provided case will maximize its life.
Q: What about my braces?
A: Your Headstrong mouthguard will be specially made to allow for some limited movement of the teeth. However, you will need to get a new mouthguard more frequently to allow your braces to work.
Q: Do I have to go to my dentist?
A: No. Our dental professionals and lab technicians do it all. Our mouthguard is equivalent or superior to a dentist provided mouthguard. In fact, we provide mouthguards to several dentists for their patients.
